-White Fang was filmed here. Dalton City was moved to the fairgrounds.
-Haines Highway is integral to the economy.
-Ft Seward was carved out of the wilderness in 1903 by the Army. This base was the focus of economy for 50 years.

-The Chisel Building was built in 1916 and is the tallest, at 4 stories, in Haines.

ReplyDeleteAlaska Natives, in this area, Tlingit, have been here for over 10,000 years. Their culture and heritage is precious to us! Make sure take the opportunity to learn as much as you can about their history while you're in the area!
Fort Seward is such a fascinating place - the buildings are so lovely. Try to eat breakfast at the Halsingland Hotel - really beautiful!
